J. Augustus Jones by Randy Gustafson

Rotarian Randy Gustafson shared his passion for history and for trains with us on Wed.  His entertaining presentation took us through the life of J. Augustus Jones of Warren, his ties to businesses, banks and a circus.

Randy’s curiosity was peaked when he started to look into Warren Circus Flat Cars that are common in model trains.  It turned out the real version was made in Starbrick. Circuses were charged by the car, not by weight, so to save money they made the cars longer so they would extend the cars up to 70ft. These were used by many circuses including Ringling Brothers.  The story of Jone’s life was incredible, from banker to circus owner and more.  Thank you Randy for sharing this incredible tale with us.
